When choosing a rig for an upcoming drilling campaign, an ill-informed decision has the potential to cost millions of dollars in downtime if the rig reaches location and doesn’t operate as designed.
How do you mitigate the financial risk during the rig tendering phase?

ADC’s Technical Rig Audit Management System (TRAMS) has been developed to capture and analyse the findings from every inspection carried out over the last 10 years of our operations. Armed with this data, we target known areas of risk by conducting a trend analysis on everything from Drilling Contractor, Rig Type/Design, Operational Status, Equipment and Systems on board. Identifying non-conformance trends, allows us to maximise the short period of time on board each rig option to conduct a transparent and consistent inspection - providing the Operator with a comparative analysis of the rigs, underpinned by the potential financial risk of each option.

Each section of the TRAMS Rig Selection Checklist carries a weighting based on potential financial risk. The sections include:
- Rig Capability Requirements
- Client Specific Requirements
- Management Systems and Operational Status
- Equipment
- 3rd Party
- Modifications
Upon completion of each rig visit, ADC produces a report on the suitability of the specific rig for the planned operations before then comparing all rig options on suitability and Potential Financial Risk based on the inspections findings.
