This unit is designed to define the principal of a dropped object, be it dynamic or static and their causes. Furthermore, the unit identifies and explains company and individual roles / responsibilities.

PLANNING, IDENTIFICATION & CONTROL

This unit demonstrates the elements within the continuous cycle used to manage drops successfully including (but not limited to) identifying and assessing the hazard and risk. It explains the hierarchy of control, both preventative and mitigating and the importance of monitoring and managing change effectively.

MANAGING POTENTIAL DROPPED OBJECTS

This unit guides candidates through conducting a regular, visual and tactile inspection within an established management system in the format that would be supplied by ADC, a format endorsed by the industry’s Drops Forum.

SECURING BEST PRACTICES

This unit explains and demonstrates industry best practices with regards to securing methods and safe use of tools and equipment at height. This unit also includes guidance with regards to the safe handling and packaging of cargo to and from offshore installations as described by the Marine safety Forum.

ASSESSMENT QUESTIONS

The final unit within the Understanding Dropped Objects course is designed to obtain assessment evidence of the candidate’s understanding of the course content and competencies required to identify, manage and control potential dropped objects. Results gained within this unit, which utilises randomly selected questions, are combined with answers given to particular questions at the end of each of the previous menus to score the level of understanding apparent.
